One year ago, you may remember, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

We were together for 78,000 km and because it had an undiagnosed heart condition, is now up in that big junkyard in the sky. I saved the emblem and made a plaque so I'll always remember.
Rest in pieces, BKEZ 292.

A fitting tribute. You still aiming to get a new GTI?

"Yours to discover"
If that ain't some poetic ish. Seems almost heartbreaking on a dead car's plaque

It's better than a Quebec plate. I imagine "Je me souviens" would be quite fitting, but also really sad.

Now that's something I hadn't considered!

Yep! In a weird twist, it means I can wait patiently for the performance package to arrive in Canada, whereas if I had gotten out of the lease when it was supposed to end, I'd be in a normal one.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's been a while but it's always a little tougher when tragedy strikes during the holidays. It's always a reminder of the anniversary of your loss.

Glad I'm not the only one that does this. My S10 died too soon, so I kept its badge as a keepsake.

Nice work, the timber would look nice with some varnish or hit it with a butane torch lightly for that slightly burnt look...sorry

Haha the torch is a good idea. I put a few coats of verathane on it but the glossy clear isn't particularly noticeable.

Ah cool. I made a plaque for my dad after he crashed his ute. When we went to get his personal stuff out of the car, I removed the badge from the bonnet without him noticing. I managed to find some velvet of almost identical colour, it was a very dark green that looked black in most lights, then mounted it in a small picture frame with the velvet background. He got emotional when I surprised him with it and said he had wanted to get the badge off the wreak but forgot on the day! Still hangs on his wall 17 yrs later.
Edit: same colour as the cars paint!

That's great! The emblem was burned enough that it added some character but still in good shape so I'm glad I was able to grab it and make something memorable.

I totally missed that charring on the badge! Hope you can stop the compulsive types who will want to rub the soot off!

I hate to say it, but I'll be copying your idea for the mangled plate off my Neon.
When I say mangled, I mean it's just about torn in half, and partially folded over as well.
